ABOUT ME



Hello and welcome to all the travel enthusiasts visiting my blog. I am Madhuleka Iyer.
Let me start by talking about my home. Born in Bangalore and brought up for a large part of my childhood in Chennai, I have always been an outdoors girl. I believe in exploring both the world immediately around me and diametrically opposite me. 
All my trips until now have been with my family. 
The seed of my love for travel was sown in me at a very young age. I don’t remember too many summers sitting idle in my living room watching television. I remember taking multiple weekend trips during my childhood. We’d get in the car and drive to a weekend destination like Srirangapatna or Pondicherry. 
An aspiring author, my love for writing started with maintaining travel journals no matter how short the trip was. In all my childhood pictures, I always had a diary in hand. I noted down all the locations we visited throughout the day and would expand on these the minute we were back in our hotel room. 
I am excited at the prospect of sharing my experiences with other travel lovers and hence decided to start this blog. 
A lot of the wonderful pictures that you get to see along with my articles are courtesy my travel buddies, my mom, dad and sister.

VAGAMON- HILLSTATION IN GOD'S OWN COUNTRY

VAGAMON I am sure everyone reading this post would have heard about the beautiful hill station, Munnar. Well, it is quite rightly popular considering the famous tourist spots and most important of all, it’s cool weather.  But if you want to experience the same things in a smaller but less crowded location, I would really recommend Vagamon in Kerala. It is around 1000 meters above sea level.  Since I am from Chennai, the best option for me was a long drive with my family to Vagamon. The climb is pretty scenic. It is a joyful ride up. There are multiple tea stalls along the way where I stopped for a hot cup of Chai in this wonderful weather. Most pieces of land here are tea plantations. This green landscape is like cucumber for the eyes. In fact, I stayed in a plantation cum hotel.  There is a lake in this city where one can spend time leisurely walking or boating. Given the cool weather, this is really a wonderful place to visit....

BANDARANAIKE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT If you think that you have to pass immigration to feel a country, I can’t tell you how wrong you are. I was en route to Japan. I travelled by Sri Lankan airways and had a long haul at the Sri Lankan airport- the Bandaranaike international airport. To pass time I decided to look through the bazillion shops set up in the airport. It was no Heathrow but I was mesmerized. The spices native to the country, the different skin products, the bags, the clothes and most important of all, the tea. It is no secret that Ceylon tea is one of the best you will ever taste. There were so many varieties of tea available in the airport itself. And the best part is that all these Sri Lankan goodies are sold in the airport at affordable prices. I could feel Sri Lanka right in the airport. When I knew that we had a long haul, I brought books to read and downloaded a lot of songs to keep myself occupied as I thought that I would get bored.     SWITZERLAND- A SETTING RIGHT OUT OF THE PHOTO FRAME   The first image I have when Switzerland is mentioned , being the eternal chocolate lover, is the famous Lindt Chocolate box. I can definitely eat up an entire box in a single shot.  This beautiful country situated in the Western part of Europe, is a country one must put on their bucket list.  I visited Switzerland during the Summer.  I stayed at Lucerne which is situated a little further from the capital city Bern.  The famous Lion Statue of Lucerne, carved of a dying lion, is engraved in a wall near a small pond. It is a monument that was built to pay respects to the Swiss guards who were killed during the French Revolution. When the residence of the French Monarch King Louis XVI was stormed by the revolutionaries, the Swiss Guards who were guarding the palace were massacred.
