SWITZERLAND- A SETTING RIGHT OUT OF THE PHOTO FRAME

SWITZERLAND- A SETTING RIGHT OUT OF THE PHOTO FRAME   The first image I have when Switzerland is mentioned , being the eternal chocolate lover, is the famous Lindt Chocolate box. I can definitely eat up an entire box in a single shot.  This beautiful country situated in the Western part of Europe, is a country one must put on their bucket list.  I visited Switzerland during the Summer.  I stayed at Lucerne which is situated a little further from the capital city Bern.  The famous Lion Statue of Lucerne, carved of a dying lion, is engraved in a wall near a small pond. It is a monument that was built to pay respects to the Swiss guards who were killed during the French Revolution. When the residence of the French Monarch King Louis XVI was stormed by the revolutionaries, the Swiss Guards who were guarding the palace were massacred. The dying Lion Monument hence, has the French’s symbol on the spear that is piercing the Lion’s torso and the Swiss’s sy...

WHY DO PEOPLE TRAVEL TO INDIA?

Image
WHY DO PEOPLE TRAVEL TO INDIA? As a young Indian, I have visited quite a few parts of this country and have gathered along the way that tourists travelling to India have multiple reasons for doing so. Let me start with the obvious reason, sightseeing and relaxation. People who want to take a break from their monotonous life and crave a little vacation visit Kashmir, Shimla, Shillong and so on. The trek on snowy mountains and chai and sandwiches by the river is a gratifying experience. Adventure tourism is also prevalent in these regions. They have multiple skilled instructors and equally enthusiastic adventure-heads for sports like paragliding during the summer and skiing in the winter.  These are mountainous regions with a sight for sore eyes. When I visited Shillong, during the summer months, the weather was pleasant and made me crave for an extra ten minutes every time it was time to go into our rooms.  Near here is the world’s wettest plac...

HOW TRAVELLING EXPANDED MY HORIZON

HOW TRAVELLING EXPANDED MY HORIZON As a naïve little girl, I saw the world around me, my neighbours, my school and the local park as the world itself. I had my own little dream that surrounded that little world of mine. I hadn’t explored much until then. But things changed drastically the minute I stepped out of my comfort zone. That little protective bubble that I had, built around me, seemed to have popped when my parents decided to show me a new place every vacation. Now, I don’t think I will fit back into that bubble. Once we have outgrown our cradle, we can’t fit back in, no matter how much we try.   I have always been an outdoors girl, which has made this lockdown all the more difficult for me. I have always been the kind of person who would go all around the place for no particular reason, go to a far-away store to get an item I could have probably got at a far closer store. Just a small car ride gets me excited.    I always wonder h...

VAGAMON- HILLSTATION IN GOD'S OWN COUNTRY

Image
VAGAMON I am sure everyone reading this post would have heard about the beautiful hill station, Munnar. Well, it is quite rightly popular considering the famous tourist spots and most important of all, it’s cool weather.  But if you want to experience the same things in a smaller but less crowded location, I would really recommend Vagamon in Kerala. It is around 1000 meters above sea level.  Since I am from Chennai, the best option for me was a long drive with my family to Vagamon. The climb is pretty scenic. It is a joyful ride up. There are multiple tea stalls along the way where I stopped for a hot cup of Chai in this wonderful weather. Most pieces of land here are tea plantations. This green landscape is like cucumber for the eyes. In fact, I stayed in a plantation cum hotel.  There is a lake in this city where one can spend time leisurely walking or boating. Given the cool weather, this is really a wonderful place to visit....
